LTJG Sutarto Soeng, RN, BSN
LTJG Sutarto Soeng is a U.S. Navy Nurse and Medical Officer Recruiter at the Navy Recruiting District in Norfolk, VA. Born in Indonesia, he immigrated to the United States in 2005 and joined the U.S. Navy in 2010 as a Surgical Technologist. He worked as a Navy Surgical Technologist for seven years, assisting surgeons and nurses on a variety of surgical procedures. He was appointed as Main Operating Room work-center supervisor at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth during that tenure. In 2017, he was selected to receive a scholarship from the Navy’s Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program to pursue a degree in nursing. He graduated from the Old Dominion University School of Nursing in 2019 and was awarded with the Chair’s Award. He was commissioned as Navy Nurse Corps Officer the same year.
As a Navy Nurse, he was assigned to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. When the Covid-19 pandemic devastated the country, he assisted in the humanitarian relief missions to New York City and Eagle Pass, Texas. These experiences allowed him to fulfill his passion to serve others and to make a positive impact on others’ lives as a healthcare provider. LTJG Soeng also assisted the Langley Air Force Base Ambulatory Surgical Center in reducing surgical backlogs due to Covid-19 and was recognized as a subject matter expert for his work. During his tenure as a Nurse and Surgical Technologist, he has received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal. In his free time, LTJG Soeng enjoys travelling, jogging, going on outings and playing games with his wife and two sons.
